Carburisation and other deposits generated during firing are undesirable side effects that may arise during the sintering of diamond tools using graphite moulds, as well as when sintering ceramics and high-performance carbides using graphite supports or other sintering fixtures. Additionally, high stresses induced by friction between the sintered part and its support can result directly from the high shrinkage and thermal expansion coefficient present in the sintered component. This can lead to deformation of the sintered components.
Benefits of Boron Nitride in Sintering and Powder Metallurgy
Boron nitride coatings prevent reactions from occurring on the contact surface between the sintered part and its support at temperatures up to 2000°C and beyond. HeBoCoat® also acts as an excellent non-stick coating for graphite supports and other sintering devices.
The exceptional properties of Boron Nitride are further leveraged in sintering applications, both in powder form using HeBoFill® as a powder bed and in sintered form using HeBoSint® crucibles. This ensures even heat transfer to prevent differential thermal expansions that can cause distortion of the finished sintered part.
Similarly, HeBoSint® sintering loading trays and spacer parts are commonly used in high-temperature sintering processes where long service life and low maintenance are essential. These effectively protect against carburisation and potential reactions resulting from the contact between the sintered part and its support.

Boron Nitride coatings – HeBoCoat®, available in water-based and ethanol-based formulations, meet the specific requirements of each customer.
Each application in metallurgy demands specific performance characteristics from the coating. Consequently, there are three lines of coatings with different properties:
- HeBoCoat® Power Line: This is the most extensive range, featuring products in both ethanol-based and water-based formulations. It is designed for environments or situations that require non-adhesive and lubricating properties.
- HeBoCoat® Expert Line: A specialised range of coatings designed for the most demanding applications. It is available in a water-based formulation and is the preferred coating when aiming for top-tier performance.
- HeBoCoat® Spray Line: Boron Nitride coating in spray/aerosol form, known for its user-friendly and direct application. It allows for the swift application of non-adhesive and lubricating films without the need for any additional equipment.
HeBoSint®– Sintered Boron Nitride Parts in Foundry
On the other hand, sintered Boron Nitride parts – HeBoSint® – are precision-machined according to the 3D model or plan provided by the customer. This allows for obtaining sintered Boron Nitride parts with specific measurements for their application in the metallurgy sector.
Depending on the environment and work requirements in their application, sintered parts offer different and specific compositions. Therefore, the HeBoSint® range has three product lines:
- HeBoSint® Pure Line: Parts made from pure Boron Nitride, without any binders and specifically designed for applications requiring high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, and a working temperature of up to 2300°C in a vacuum.
- HeBoSint® Classic Line: A versatile and reliable range of sintered Boron Nitride components. Due to their properties, this range offers the most applications.
- HeBoSint® Strong Line: A line known for its mechanical properties. Exceptional results are achieved by sintering Hexagonal Boron Nitride with Zirconium Dioxide or Aluminium Nitride.
HeBoFill® – Boron Nitride Powder for Shaping
Boron Nitride powder can be added to various base substrates to facilitate lubrication.
Due to the diverse range of situations and processes where Boron Nitride powder – HeBoFill® can be applied, there are three product lines within the range:
- HeBoFill® Basic Line: An all-around line of Boron Nitride powder. It ensures straightforward implementation in production, providing good thermal and non-adhesive properties.
- HeBoFill® Lub Line: Enhances lubrication due to its crystalline structure. Ideal for use in lubricants or greases.
- HeBoFill® Cool Line: The recommended line if you want to improve the thermal conductivity of the base material without altering its electrical insulation properties. Particularly aimed at sectors like electric cars or electronics with increasing thermal management needs.
